We spend much of our daily lives caught up in busy routines, unobservant of the curious details that make up the visual world we are passing through. Irish artist Miriam O´Connor´s photographic series Attention Seekers lingers on these often overlooked traces, singling them out with an attentive and subtle gaze that imbues them with a mysterious and magical vitality. Attention Seekers is concerned with the representation of everyday scenes, spaces and people encountered by the photographer, and O´Connor has a unique talent for discovering infinite possibilities of image-making amidst the quotidian banality, slicing out those details which petition for attention.

PhotoIreland is delighted to present our first Book & Magazine Fair where national and international publishers will showcase their latest publications. The collection on show is open in its conceptual framing and wide in its outreach: it includes photobooks and photo magazines from all over the world, as well as a rich example of contemporary publications focused on Art, Design and Illustration, as part of our interest on Image Culture. For these publishers, the pleasure comes both from the content and from its delivery. The low key handmade fanzine, the postcard-based publication, or the hardcover classic with high production values, all rejoice in the book format. It has been a fantastic opportunity for our team to sieve though the over 500 items that will be on display, and we hope you will share the feeling.

Oldschool concept store is an international cultural event, including fashion, books, magazines and lectures. Event title is - OldSchool concept store "We are closing in 21 days" will be held from 9.- 30. May 2011 in CZECHDESIGN.CZ gallery. There will be also number of lectures during 21 days in CZECH CENTRE PRAGUE. With the idea to organize a temporary store concept that combines fashion, books, magazines and lectures, came the designers studio Oldschool (Hana Vanatkova, Adam Uchytil and Pavel Brejcha). This project enables the Czech audience to compare on the international field of visual communication, graphic design and fashion design. It is also about meeting and learning.

We opened last Friday with less a bang, and more a beer-in-hand, often-quiet, sometimes-crowded, perusal of some really great zines, tiny publishers, and paper ephemera from a few different corners of this globe. It´s just how we roll. Due to the nature of this exhibition, we won´t have an online shop for all of you far from Berlin to peek at, but so many of our contributors have online shops of their own and we´re working on putting together a list of zine and comic libraries.

THE BOOK AFFAIR - 2. & 3. June 2011, Venice, Italy

In the occasion of the four day opening of 54th edition of the Venice Art Biennale (1 - 4 June, 2011), Automatic Books, the independent publishing house run by Tankboys, Elena Xausa and Tommaso Speretta, presents The Books Affair, a two days of independent art publishers fair.
Most independent art publishers around the world are invited to show their books, discuss their ways of considering the independent publishing today, present their new future projects, and enjoy the large amount of exhibitions and events that will happen in Venice in those days.
Conferences, lectures and talks, book launches and book signing will take place during the fair.
The Books Affair will take place on June 2nd and 3rd at Metricubi, one of the few independently run exhibition spaces in Venice.
The Book Affair have been made possible thanks to the precious help of Metricubi.

The Indie Photobook Library at Snap! Orlando 06/05/2011 :: Orlando, Florida

Founded in 2010 by Larissa Leclair, the Indie Photobook Library (iPL) is an archive that showcases and preserves self-published and indie published photobooks through exhibitions and as a non-circulating public library. The Indie Photobook Library is part of Snap! Orlando with a pop-up exhibition of photobooks from the ipl collection. The iPL is pleased to have E. Brady Robinson, Associate Professor, UCF School of Visual Arts and Design, and Heather Comparetto, photographer and curator, curate the pop-exhibition of photobooks for Snap! Orlando. Roughly fifty titles will be on display during the event, allowing visitors to explore and celebrate the diversity, craft, and creativity in self-publishing today.

Following an open call participants from all around the world submitted their works. The presentation at Apartment Project is the second in a series as the project has the aim to create an archive that will be expanding and traveling through different venues.
